Why choose Cantiones? “Tuesday night is Cantiones night” is our mantra and, barring the inevitable
commitments of members of an amateur group, we try very hard to commit to our
weekly rehearsal. We present three or four concerts per year, as well as enjoying an annual
‘Awayday’ and we join with singers from near and far to offer an annual ‘Come and
Sing’ event. We are sometimes invited to sing at general and charitable local
events.
Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 7.30pm at Christchurch, 9 Chapel St. Oswestry.

Cantiones welcomes new singers into the choir at the beginning of each season and
you are very welcome to try out a rehearsal and have a ‘voicing’ session before
committing to joining.
We are a long-standing contributor to music in Oswestry and wider area with a
reputation for presenting high quality performances for more than 40 years. We
have covered a huge range and variety of classical choral works but we are never
afraid of the challenge of new and more modern pieces. We have, of late, been
singing works by female composers such as Imogen Holst, Judith Weir and Cecilia
McDowall.
We are welcoming and friendly, many of us having made firm life-long friends
through our membership of the choir. Vocal Coach
Fairly uniquely we benefit from having a professional vocal coach, Sarah Wright-
Owens, amongst the choir, who also deputises for the MD when he is unavailable.
Sarah works on technique with the choir and voices us as necessary to ensure
people are placed in the section appropriate for current and changing voices. She
also helps choir members to become better sight readers.
